Are Delivery Trucks Causing Injuries at Esplanade and Mystery Streets?

Click on the photo for a larger view

Let me preface this post by saying this is NOT an April Fool’s joke.

The yellow Americans with Disabilities Act mat on the corner of Esplanade and Mystery is causing injuries.

One man tripped over the mat sticking up at Esplanade and Mystery and literally fell flat on his face which bloodied his nose and caused him to lose his glasses.   Karen at Terranova’s said an ambulance was called.

A woman wearing sandals caught her toe in the protruding mat and she bled profusely leaving blood on the corner.

Trucks delivering to Canseco’s warehouse door on Mystery Street appear to be sitting on and rolling over the ADA mat on the corner of Esplanade at Mystery Street.

Click on the photo above to get a better view of the large crack above the Americans with Disabilities Act mat at the corner of Esplanade and Mystery Streets.   The crack does not appear to be one caused by settling but by a large amount of weight pressing on the area.

Large bollards on either side of the mat could alleviate the problem of trucks rolling over and sitting on the ADA mat on the corner of Esplanade and Mystery Streets.

Please call 311 if you believe that this is a situation that should be immediately repaired.   I have called but, there is strength in numbers.   This really should be repaired right away.

Saturday in the Park

Just a few of the many wonderful Faubourg St. John neighbors who came out to keep Fortier Park the best pocket park in the city.

ccc2014-FortierParkMany neighbors came out on Saturday, July 18 to get Fortier Park back in shape.

Neighbors cut back plants, pulled weeds, spread pine straw mulch, planted new things and evaluated the lighting system previously installed by neighbors. Mostly, neighbors took care of general maintenance in Fortier Park.

Refreshments and some supplies were provided. It was a great opportunity for neighbors to get together.

Beautiful Fortier Park

I stopped by Fortier Park this afternoon and ran into the nice folks you see in the photo above. They indicated they were from out-of-town and decided to forgo a trip to the French Quarter so they could take in the beauty of Fortier Park and Faubourg St. John. Thanks to all of the great volunteers who helped maintain the beauty of Fortier Park this morning. And, a special thank you to Bobby Wozniak for his decades of dedication to making Fortier Park what it is today.

Magical Mystery Tour

by Charlie London
Like the Postcards from Home you see every Sunday at FSJNA dot ORG, the Magical Mystery Tour takes you on a ride in and around Faubourg St. John.

Below you will see an artist who consented to have her picture taken while painting in City Park. City Park offers a magical mystery tour of its own but you have to get up, get out and walk the sidewalks, bridges, and trails to see it.

Every Wednesday look for another part of the Magical Mystery Tour we live everyday here in New Orleans. Every city has something… but New Orleans has that magic and mystery around every corner that you just don’t find other places. Check back at FSJNA dot ORG every Wednesday to see what I mean!
