Are you an artist wishing you had a booth at the Bastille Day Celebration on July 13th? Art market is on. Contact Suzanne at: PalsLounge@aol.com
For New Orleanians, the observance of Bastille Day seldom involves a single day to pay homage to our French roots and “célébrer la vie” – celebrate life. Residents can take one day- July 13 – to celebrate France’s version of Independence Day and literally dance in the streets.
The “Bastille Day in Faubourg St. John” is a family affair that takes place in the 3100 block of Ponce de Leon Street, between Esplanade Avenue and North Lopez. A number of businesses and organizations will have events during the day, but the official celebration is 5-9 p.m. There will be live music, arts and crafts for the kids, artisans, food and beverages. So take a chair or blanket, hang out, and support local vendors, artists and musicians.
The music schedule includes: Cynthia Scott, who will sing “Le Marseillaise” at 5:30 p.m..; Norbert Slama and Raphael Bas (Manouche Musette), 5-7 p.m.; Johnny J and the Hitmen, 7-9 p.m.; and Ukulele Jake.
The annual event is sponsored by the Faubourg St. John Merchants Association, which includes Café Degas, Fair Grinds Coffeehouse, Maple Street Book Shops, Nonna Mia, Pal’s Lounge, Santa Fe and Swirl Wines.
Norbert Slama and Raphael Bas (Manouche Musette) will perform from 5 – 7 and Johnny J and the Hitmen from 7 – 9. Cynthia Scott will sing the Marseillaise at 5:30. Ukulele Jake will perform at the Bastille Day Celebration too!
