Size Matters

FMIA says on their website, “The proposal for Elysio Lofts on Elysian Fields seeks a zoning waiver to increase the height limit from 50 feet to 75 feet, as well as reduce parking requirements from 1.5 per dwelling unit to 1 and eliminate commercial parking. This current 50 foot height limit was created in the 70s in response to Christopher Inn. This kind of construction will set a precedent for other high-rise buildings in the Marigny and into the Bywater and threatens the delicate balance between businesses, density and residents that have led the improved quality of life of Historic Faubourg Marigny“.

Elisio Lofts says on their website, “…at this location one could conventionally clear the entire site and build on it a uniform 50-foot box with parking on the ground floor and no preservation of the older middle warehouse, we think it is a bad idea. It would be alien to a neighborhood that completely defies such homogeneity, and it would not reflect best practices in urban design.”

At the August 13, 2012 Board Meeting, the Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association voted to support existing zoning requirements in Faubourg Marigny.
