Harrah’s and Carnival to Open Facility on Bayou St. John

New Orleans – Today, Carnival Cruise Lines and Harrah’s Casino announced a joint venture to build a marine terminal and casino on Bayou St. John. The docks will be at the former Old Soldiers Home site on Bayou St. John. The Deutsches Haus (soon to be located at the former site) has agreed to provide hosts for guests boarding and leaving cruises. Guests will be treated to a myriad of German beers by ladies clad in traditional German clothing.

Harrah’s will be purchasing the current Esplanade Apartments. The downstairs will be a full service casino and the apartments will be converted to premium hotel rooms for high-rollers.

The Corps of Engineers has agreed to dredge Bayou St. John to allow deep draft ships and will be converting all of the bridges over the bayou to high speed draw bridges. Projected to be completed by 2020.
